    Gareth has escaped!
He phoned from his getaway car (driven by his father in law). He sounded in pain, tired, but oh so relieved to be out of hospital.
Personally felt crappy most of the day, so took co-codamol and went for a wander in town; chatted with lots of people, so felt better.
Cooked a reasonable evening meal - roast beef, yorkshires (ok, frozen ones) spuds, carrots and parsnips - no roasties - got to watch the calories.
Started a bit of a reordering of the small back bedroom (dumping ground) ready to cram it with stuff from the study, which is my next major project.

I wrote a list - and completed it!
polished the grout on the tiles, mended my handbag, put out the rubbish, ran a load of laundry, cooked a meal, cleaned the kitchen
    Pleased with self
Also on a happy note, Gareth is feeling better

Yesterday I actually put some tiles up in the downstairs loo, having spent the weekend cutting them. Today I finished putting them up, also had physio appointment, and finished the last 2 tiles in kitchen

    Gareth update
Gareth had a bad time. Peristalsis hasn't restarted, Nasal gastric tube inserted, IV antibiotic drip, other things in other orifices, poor bloke.
Second surgery on the cards to wash the infected area again
He is a very ill person.

    Gareth, my ds
Gareth was in extreme pain. Olli went off to London. Gareth ended up in York Hospital, with suspected appendicitis. When they operated they discovered that it had gone gangrenous and burst. Nasty.
Anja had invited herself round, so kept me company. We watched the first Harry Potter movie

    meltdown
It had to happen. I knew it would happen and now it has.

Started to do 'stuff' Anja phoned. I tried to drop a few gentle hints I'd be busy, but she still wanted to come round. Of course, Jo then phoned, had got new kitten, did I want to go see, so I had to ask if I could take Anja. Jo is jealous of the time I spend with Anja, as she feels she is being replaced in my affections as my daughter. Silly cow. We went round, I took lots of photos of the kitten, then managed to break the card putting it into reader, Phoned Jo to ask when I could go round to take more photos, and was told she was too busy. She couldnt spare me 10 damn minutes. I hit the gin very hard, then Les came in to find me in floods of tears, so he phoned them. Ian  then phoned me, to explain how Jo was so stressed with exams, yadayadayada. I was too drunk to be able to say clearly just how mean a bitch I think she is. I was aware how drunk I am,. so was being careful. I think I did try to explain to Ian that I am so damn LONELY that I can't forgo a chance of spending an afternoon with Anja on the offchance that Jo might have a few minutes to spare me.
I have posh people comeing to the house on Wednesday, To say it is a tip is an understatement.
    I have had enough

taps chisels and bits of wood March 14th
Phone rang this morning - young male Gloucestershire accent  said hello - I thought it was my son, but thankfully the voice spoke again, and what it said identified the caller as my future son in law - I simply hadn't realised that they sound so similar. Almost oops! He was calling on behalf of my daughter who wanted to borrow a cake box.
Did a whole lot of nothing apart from painting one side of a door and making a trip to Glouceste
    r. We returned some tap tops, bought a replacement chisel for the one of Ian's Les broke, collected my new 12 gang multisocket, bought the wood for the new gateframe, came home, ate and slobbed out

Last visit to Glenda 20th February 2009
quote from a post I made elsewhere

Well. I've sat at the computer most of the day.
    ....(other bits cut  out)
Glenda called, and asked me to go round there. I am oddly very reluctant; I think because it upsets me to see her so ill, but I will get changed - no painting done - and go
    Diz

Well, in retrospect, I am SO glad I went.
This is written later, so with hindsight.

I made cups of tea, and chattered away to Glenda. I sort of noticed that she didn't get up from the sofa. I hugged her, but she was in so much pain that she flinched. She spoke about how she wanted friends to have some of her jewellery after she had died. I have no proof of this, so can't really tell Jeff, as Glenda said she wanted Jo to have a necklace. I talked to her a lot about how happy Jo and Ian were about their engagement, and about the celebration meal that was being planned for the following week. She understood what I was saying, and did reply a fair bit. Glenda fell asleep a few times, but woke much refreshed. Then her mind started wandering, her sentences got lost half spoken and she struggled for words. Her right arm started moving without her meaning it to. She managed to drink something, but then threw up, poor thing. It was fairly obvious that she had a brain tumour, and was failing. I was concerned that she shouldn't be left alone for long, so stayed as long as I could, and promised to return on the Monday.
That was the last time I saw her

    Glenda
My closest friend, Glenda, died last night from an undiagnosed brain tumour, which was secondary to her leukaemia.
It has yet to sink in. I think it will tomorrow, if I can get some time on my own. I learnt some time ago not to cry in front of other people if I can bottle it up.

    Ignorance
It was the church jumble sale today. I got up early, went and helped. Gill was there helping. Serge and his wife were there, as were lots of other acquaintances. I laughed, bargained and  shared the news about the engagement. I  bought a few bits, filled my car with left over books and bric a brac to take to the charity shops the next week. .

oops, another few days in a row inc BIG NEWS!
    Wednesday
I painted the ceiling in the downstairs loo, and in a sudden burst of energy also painted the kitchen ceiling too, as it needed another coat. I was pleased with myself for not dripping any paint on the new units and doors.
Had a call from Jo to say that Ian had asked her to marry him, and she'd said yes. We decided not to tell Les, but  to wait until they came here for Ian to formally ask for Les' agreement.

    Thursday
Anja phoned, walked down here; we chatted about Jo's news while I did some chores. We popped out to Tesco for some bits, had lunch. I washed down the walls, floor and pipes of the downstairs loo, took Anja home, then put undercoat on the pipes.
Jo and Ian came in, Ian asked for Les' agreement - Les was SO delighted for them. Ian and then went off to do something to Les' car, but there was a strange secretive  undertone. Jo and I chatted. I realised I'd left my handbag in the car - Jo offered to go look - very odd. I then mentioned making them a cup of tea - Jo said she's take it out to them - even stranger. I pretended not to notice, which was fun!

    Friday 13th
    My birthday.
Les gave me a wonderful card - lilac with fluffy lilac edging. The one from The Red Hatters is wonderful - it has a dog with a red hat on, and when you open it, it plays the old pop song 'Dizzy, I'm so Dizzy, my head is spinning...'
The secret of the previous night WAS a hands free kit for my car - a gift from Jo and Ian.  Les had also asked them to get one for his car, too. I had planned to go to Gloucester for a wander on my own, but Jo's labs had been cancelled, so she said she'd come with me, rather than have me go off on my own for the day. She was actually too tired, really, but I didn't realise that until we were there. We popped in to say hello to Glenda, spent ages in Hobbycraft looking at party invitations - they are having an engagement party in 2 weeks' time. We also looked at many rings for Ian, and had a wander around some charity shops - I am looking for a red outfit to wear just once a year.
Jo dropped me off home, Les arrived, we strolled down to get some supper, then Jo and Ian arrived again, with a dairy free ginger cake she'd forgotten to bring me earlier.
Yummmm. Jo was flashing the ring, which had arrived earlier than quoted. It's very pretty.  My son, Gareth, phoned to say happy birthday, which was a bit of a surprise. Sat and watched Eggheads from disc, then slobbed out eating cake and chocolate and drinking  tea.
    A very pleasant birthday.

    Tuesday 11th
    Another bad night
Did the usual stuff, tesco, kitchen, etc.
Cardboard & cartons to recycling point.
Tried out vacuum from Freecycle - it's a good one
Put up carrier bag dispenser in garage, did 5 minutes tidying in there. 5 days might make an impact.
Found a place for compost bin and got it started.
Ironed a few shirts last minute - curry stain on one - messy man!

    Manky Monday
Another bad night. Fed up of this now.
Collected Glenda's parcel, dropped it off to her, took some books to charity shop, dropped Les' case off for repair.
Tesco shopping - lots of stuff out of stock - assistant says people have been panic buying because of forecast of snow and frost.
Put up a picture, did a small amount of laundry. Vacuumed/brushed/mopped downstairs.
    Sneezed and coughed a lot

    Another nothing weekend
I have come down with a cold, which I must have caught from Anja - I'm annoyed about this, as it means I can't see Glenda until I'm clear of it.
Slept badly yet again, then slept for most of the morning.
My right leg has started giving me trouble again. I get a pain in the top of my leg, or just above the back of the knee, or just on the top of the foot. The leg goes cold  and the foot seems to swell, as my shoe feels tight. After a while it eases, and the leg feels very hot. This is not good, and calls for a lot of movement and exercise.

Jo and Ian called around, Ian helped Les fix his calculator, as Ian had the necessary tools to get it open. It pleases me a great deal to see them getting on. Gave Jo £40 restaurant vouchers I got for £10 Tesco vouchers, so they had a meal out basically on about 18 months of reusing carrier bags!

Slept very badly yet again, this time with severe indigestion.
Les got up to take part in the Dursley Dozen, a tough 12 mile cross country run. He got there to find nothing happening, no notice of cancellation, just a few other prospective runners hanging about. He therefore also went for a bit of a run, but has been disgruntled all day. The website now says that it may be run on another date, or they'll look forward to seeing people next year - no word about refunding the fee. I can understand if they'd cancelled it 2 days ago, put an announcement on the website, etc, but this seemed so last minute
; it isn't as if there's much snow here.
I spent a long time cleaning the kitchen - not that you'd guess now.
Ventured out on foot to Tesco; more to get out if the house than a real need for bread.
I failed in my laundry challenge - 2 loads still to do, one more in the dryer and a pile of bedlinen to fold.
Watched the Wales v Scotland rugby match, Good result, but some poor play.
Slobbed in front of tv and computer all evening

    Snow on snow
My goodness, isn't it awful that I struggle to remember what I did just a couple of days ago.

    Wednesday
    Yet another nightmare.
My landfill rubbish this week was just under 2kg, mainly plastic food trays.
I put up a set of shelves that had to be fixed to the wall. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. The lava lamp is perfect on it.
    Did a ton of ironing.
Planned a day out in Gloucester the next day

    Thursday
Les slept badly, worrying about getting to work in time to get to Paris later in the day, so he eventually left about 3.30 am. He phoned me about 5.30am to say he was stuck in a traffic jam. I then got to sleep, only to be woken by Jo phoning to say she'd hurt her back, and needing a lift back to Dursley for physiotherapy. All plans went out of the window. Tried to do my FC modding, but main PC not getting online, then eventually uninstalling foxmarks and getting firefox running again, then it was all ok, but a nuisance.
Drove down to Bristol, parked at Jo's and walked back to get some shopping she wanted. Jo made an amazing offer - she offered to swap her beloved Sophie with my car, as hers has power steering. This was one hell of an offer, but  I said no, but thanks; her Sophie is hers! Drove her back here, made a snowman, took her into physio, had a chat with Mark at charity shop, collected Jo, went to Tesco, dropped her off at Ian's, collected Anja and came home.
    ...and breathe!
Did a stir fry for us, watched some tv, then Kung Fu Panda on dvd. I'd not seen it before; it is hilarious. I have a friend nicknamed wierdpanda, and he looks just like Po, so I watched Po, but saw Andi.
Didn't get to sleep until about 4am

    Friday
    Long day.
Slobbed out a bit in the morning, then had a soak in the bath. Started to make some candles with a kit from Christmas 2007 and from lots of bits of candles collected for ages. Glenda phoned about her prescription - I'd forgotten it! I therefore dashed out and collected it. then dropped it off and took Anja home. Spent quite a long while making more candles. Spoke with Jo, and with Les on his way home.
    He arrived safely about 9.30.

    3 February
Woke after an awful nightmare, which left me with a sore jaw from clenching my teeth and a migraine. Took the necessary and just sat it out.
I had planned to go shopping in the morning, but couldn't.
Went to collect part for Les' car. When bloke appeared with it he complained that the transaction hadn't gone through, so I'd have to pay for it. Umm, what the heck did he have Les' phone number for if not to call in such an instance? He said the card was out of date, blah blah blah. More likely he'd put the details in wrong, as he'd also managed to give Les a sex change to Lesley, and had misspelt our surname. He was not impressed when I asked for a correct invoice once I'd paid. This took so long I was later than planned arriving at my next port of call, which was the moderator of Gloucester Freecycle. I swear her house is the cleanest I have ever been in! Lots of ornaments and stuff, but not a speck of dust!
Trundled off to the hospital to collect Glenda, who had gone in for a blood transfusion.
Bad news. They called her husband from work to attend a consultation. Things have got very bad. They have changed her mediaction in a last ditch attempt to help her. We went for a snack while they made up the prescription. There was so much stuff it came in a carrier bag. I took her home, and promised to call in next day. Slobbed all evening

    1:47 pm
    Monday 2 Feb
Umm, a while ago now.. can I remember?

Glenda's birthday, so popped round with a card, she wasn't in, so left it there.
Organised 2 Freecycle pickups, so went and did those, despite a bit of snow.
Fixed a lilac lavalamp I got from Freecycle; it just needed a bulb and a fuse. It's fun - I've always wanted one, but never had one before.
